To the Bottom of the Bible IT has often been said that any thing may be proved from the Bible; but before any thing can be admitted as proved by the Bible, the Bible itself must be proved to be true; for if the Bible be not true, or the truth of it be doubtful, it ceases to have authority, and cannot be admitted as proof of any thing. -Thomas Paine
The Age of Reason - Part II 66 books. A minimum of 43 authors over a period spanning no less than 1600 years.
Or is it? Looked at as a whole, the 700 pages of the Bible is overwhelming to say the least. Trying to get a concept or general idea as to what this book is about is nearly impossible...... or shall I say, as varying as the person doing the inspection. To some it is a collection of accounts describing the life and times that the authors were going through. To some it is a collection of fables. And to some it is a collection of God-inspired writings that serve as a guide for life and the directions to attaining an "afterlife". I will put forth opinions, conjecture, speculation, and arguments to show what I believe the Bible to really be......a collection of myths, some based on facts, and some based on fantasy. To do this we will take a look at the Bible as a collection of books. In some instances we will examine them on a book by book basis, and in others as groups of books. Knowing that this will not prove true to many, I still proceed. All I can do is put the information out there and hope that it helps some to a little more truth about the Bible. A monumental task? You bet! We'd better get started right away! Let's start with an examination of the first five books of the Bible, known as the "Five Books of Moses". Not up to it? You can go home now..... Can you handle the truth? To the Five Books of Moses |
